The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has condemned the reported kidnapping of students, pupils and teachers in Ahoro-Esinle Community, Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, calling for the immediate rescue of those affected.

In a statement signed by the President of the Senate of NAPS, Sen. Comr. Oyewumi Festus Ayomide, and the Clerk of the Senate, Comr. Jimoh Ibrahim, the association described the incident as disturbing and urged authorities to intensify efforts to secure the release of the victims.

According to NAPS, reports indicated that several students, school pupils, principals, vice principals and teachers were abducted during the incident, which also reportedly claimed the life of a teacher.

The association said the development had generated concern among students and members of the public, stressing the need to safeguard educational institutions across the country.

“This is not just an attack on Oyo State; it is an attack on the educational system of Nigeria and on the future of this country,” the statement said.

NAPS expressed concern over the security situation in parts of the country, noting that students and education workers should be able to carry out their activities without fear.

“We therefore call on Governor Seyi Makinde and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately intensify efforts toward securing the unconditional rescue of all abducted students and teachers,” the association stated.

While acknowledging assurances from the Oyo State Government and the Federal Government that security agencies were working to secure the release of the victims, NAPS urged authorities to take decisive steps to address the situation.

The association also called on security agencies to sustain rescue efforts and strengthen protection around schools and vulnerable communities to prevent similar incidents.

“Education must never become a death sentence in Nigeria. Schools should remain places of learning, growth, safety and hope,” the statement added.

NAPS further expressed solidarity with the affected families, the people of Oyo State and the wider student community, while praying for the safe return of those abducted.

The association urged governments at all levels to prioritise the safety of students and educational institutions across the country.
