The National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has handed over 21 boys who were being trafficked to the Niger state government.

The NAPTIP’s Director-General, Hajiya Binta Adamu said the children were intercepted by the Nigerian Immigration Service at Geidam control post in Niger State on their way to Maine Saroua (DIFFA), Niger Republic.

She said, “Two days ago, the NIS intercepted 21 boys that were intended to be trafficked to Niger Republic through Yobe State. The boys were taken from Magama, Niger State.

“According to the suspected trafficker, the boys were being taken to an Islamic school in Niger Republic which makes me wonder if there aren’t enough Islamic schools in Niger State or Nigeria at large.”

During the handover, the DG thanked the Immigration service for their partnership in the fight against human trafficking.

The boys were handed over to the Commissioner Humanitarian and Disaster Control, Niger State; Ahmed Suleiman Yumu, who was representing the Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago.
