The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has rescued eight children stolen from Kano and other northern states and trafficked to Delta State.
The children were recovered from a private orphanage in Asaba, Delta State capital, during an operation carried out with the support of the Department of State Services (DSS), Delta State Police, the Kano State Ministry of Women Affairs, civil society groups and parents of missing children.
The Director-General of NAPTIP, Binta Adamu Bello, said the raid followed years of petitions and complaints from distressed parents in Kano and neighbouring states who accused a syndicate of abducting children aged between two and ten years.
“In one of the orphanages in Asaba, over 70 children were discovered, including newborns. Eight were identified by parents from Kano and reunited with their families,” she said.

Bello condemned the activities of some orphanages, alleging that they have become “havens for stolen children.”
She said the agency will continue to investigate and bring those responsible to justice.
Civil society groups had earlier petitioned NAPTIP over the abductions.
