NAPTIP rescues critically ill victim from sexual exploitation

The National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has rescued a 21-year-old female who was trafficked to Mali for sexual exploitation and prostitution.

While narrating her ordeal, she said she was trafficked to Mali by her boyfriend, one Emmanuel Stephen for prostitution and sexual exploitation.

She said on arriving Mali, she was sold to a woman for the sum of 1.5 million naira and was subsequently forced into exploitative prostitution.

In the process of trying to return back to Nigeria, she was also forced to pay the same amount used to buy her in order to gain her freedom.

On her return, it was observed that she developed a strange sickness alongside other associated health challenges and is presently in serious condition.

Reacting to the development, Director General of NAPTIP, Senator Basheer Garba Muhammed, expressed sadness over the fate of the victim and promised that the agency will work with other partners including security agencies to address her situation.
