The embattled chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State, Aliyu Bello, has declared that he remains the authentic leader of the party in the state, insisting that the Gayam Ward executives who purportedly suspended him lack the authority to do so.
Speaking in a telephone interview with our correspondent on Wednesday, Bello dismissed his alleged suspension, describing it as “dead on arrival.” He maintained that only the state executive committee, the party’s highest decision-making body in Nasarawa, has the power to suspend a state chairman.
He further claimed that the state executive committee had recently passed a vote of confidence in his leadership, commending his dedication to the party’s growth.
Bello also denied allegations of anti-party activities and any political alliance with Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), saying the claims were baseless and aimed at tarnishing his image.
“Campaigns for 2027 have not started, and APC has not endorsed any candidate. The claim that I am campaigning for Senator Wadada, who is in another party, is false,” he said.
He argued that posters of Senator Wadada across the state are not connected to him, and none appear near his residence. “Wadada and I share a 42-year friendship that transcends party lines. That does not mean I am campaigning for him,” he said.
It would be recalled that APC executives in Gayam Ward, Lafia LGA, announced Bello’s suspension on July 1 over alleged anti-party activities. They claimed their decision followed investigations into complaints from ward members, citing a breach of Article 21 of the APC Constitution.
