Officials of the APC from across the 147 electoral wards, 13 local government areas and the state executive committee, staged a procession to the Government House where they pledged their total commitment and support to Governor Abdullahi Sule and Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada.
The procession preceded a world press conference in Lafia where the state chairman of the party, Dr. Aliyu Bello, announced that the All Progressives Congress in Nasarawa State has endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in the 2027 presidential election.
Dr. Bello said the endorsement was in recognition of what he called bold and far-reaching reforms the Tinubu administration has pursued, including efforts to stabilise the economy, develop infrastructure and improve national security. “He said the endorsement was to enable the President consolidate on the progress already recorded,” the chairman stated.
The party, from ward, local government and state levels, also passed a vote of confidence on Governor Sule and adopted Senator Wadada as the party’s preferred governorship aspirant for 2027.
Bello, however, stressed that the forthcoming primary election remains open to all aspirants.
The state chairman used the briefing to respond to what he described as misleading and inflammatory publications about the party’s conduct ahead of the 2027 governorship primary. “He said at no time did the party coerce, intimidate or compel any ward, local government or state official to adopt any particular aspirant.”
According to him, party meetings and stakeholder engagements were routine and lawful activities, not instruments of imposition. Dr. Bello rejected what he called attempts to misrepresent legitimate political consultations as coercion, warning that such efforts were designed to incite disaffection within the party and create unnecessary tension among members.
“He said the party would not be distracted by narratives intended to sow discord,” and called on all party members to conduct themselves with maturity and restraint throughout the primary process.
The chairman also commended the national chairman of the party, Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, for his leadership and commitment to strengthening internal party democracy across all levels of the organisation.
“Politics should be a platform for advancing shared goals and not a source of division,” Bello said, urging members to respect party guidelines and engage in continuous dialogue as the primary approaches.
