Nasarawa State House of Assembly says it is poised to ensure that quackery and other challenges facing the education sector in the state are tackled.

The Chairman House Committee on Education,  Daniel Ogazi, made the statement when the committee paid an oversight function to the state Ministry of Education and State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) in Lafia, the state capital.

He said there is urgent need to declare a state of emergency in the education sector in the state, stressing that quality education is the best legacy government could leave for the citizens.

“Our visit is not to witch-hunt anybody but to assess the budget performance of the ministry with the view of addressing any challenges discovered.

“There is free  education in Nasarawa State and we will not watch some principals and head teachers sabotaging the efforts of the government by collecting fees in the name of  charges from students/pupils,” he said.

Responding, Mrs Fati Sabo, Alhaji Mohammed Dan’Azumi, the Commissioner for Education and SUBEB chairman respectively, commended the committee for the visit.

They separately assured it of their efforts in ensuring supervision of teachers for effective service delivery.
