attracted participation from a management team drawn from Nasarawa State Ministry of Lands and Urban Development and partners in a N2.7 billion lands computerization project called Nasarawa Geographic Information Systems (NAGIS).
 The partners are Siraj Consulting Engineers, Aeroprecisa, and GIS Transport, partners in the totality of the 24-month period project executing Geographic Information System (GIS), and Digital Aerial Mapping (DAM), all expected to turn Nasarawa into a twin city to Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
 The week-long conference which held in Addis Ababa, capital of Ethiopia, provided capacity building to the team from Nasarawa State, in the implementation of NAGIS, a habitat project currently computerizing lands administration and management to comply with international best practices.
 The conference held at the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) United Nations Conference Centre (UNCC), according to AfricaGIS 2013 website.
The theme of the event, which was also called GSDI14 Spatial Enablment in Support of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction, and was organized by Global Spatial Data Infrastructure Association (GSDI), EIS-Africa Network, United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), EiABC, Addis Ababa University (Chair of Local Organizing Committee), and International Geospatial Society.
 Dr. David Coleman President of GSDI Association, said on the conference’s website that the event was organized to provide “the leading opportunity in 2013 to discuss issues in the design and development of spatial data infrastructures and to explore innovative approaches for spatially enabling companies, governments and individual citizens.
“From national and international agency perspectives to local grassroots initiatives, this conference brings together specialists, practitioners and decision-makers from around the world who employ and develop spatial applications, technologies and databases.”
The Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development, Sonny Agassi, who led NAGIS Project Manager, Alhaji Ibrahim Usman Jibril, Roland Klaus of Aeroprecisa, state Acting Director of Lands, Rhoda Vilo, the state Surveyor General, Emmanuel Ibi and Director of Town Planning, TPL Bala Tunkpa, told Daily Trust on return that the event offered capacity building, and provided opportunities for the state to showcase its GIS programme.
