 Halilu Danladi Envu-Alanza, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in Saturday’s by-election in Nasarawa North Senatorial District, has been declared winner of the exercise.

Professor Aminu Ali, the Returning Officer, announced the final results at the collation centre, College of Education, Akwanga, after collation of votes from Akwanga, Nasarawa Eggon and Wamba LGAs.

According to the results, Envu-Alanza polled 45,362 votes to defeat Maku Labaran of  Labour Party, who polled 12,931 votes.

Emmanuel David Ombugadu of PDP garnered 11,570 votes, while Alaku Mohammed Steve of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) scored 1,496 votes.

Declaring the result, Prof. Ali said, “That Halilu Dangadi Envwulanza of APC, having satisfied the requirement of the law, is hereby declared a winner and is returned elected.”

Meanwhile, agents of the Labour Party at the Nasarawa North Senatorial District collation centre staged a walkout in protest over the results and collation process.

Dr. Ben Ango, who led the LP team, walked out of the College of Education, Akwanga, collation centre alongside other party members shortly after collation for the three LGAs in the district was compiled.

Dr. Ango did not speak to reporters before leaving the venue, but LP officials at the centre expressed dissatisfaction with the collation process.

The by-election was held to fill the seat of the late Senator Godiya Akwashiki.

LP candidate Maku Labaran had also alleged BVAS malfunctions and ballot irregularities in some polling units.
