Nasarawa councillor abducted by gunmen

Mohammed Onumenya, an elected councillor representing Doka Ward in Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, was kidnapped by gunmen on February 23, 2026, along the Doma-Yelwa Village Road.

According to family sources, “The kidnappers called and about negotiating a ransom, but talks were cut off. They called again in the afternoon, but didn’t say anything before cutting off the call again.”

Confirming the abduction, a spokesperson of the Nasarawa State Police Command,  Yusuf Idi Sani, said the State Police Command has launched a joint operation with the army, DSS, vigilantes, and hunters to rescue the kidnapped councillor.
