As the farming season fast approaches, farmers in Nasarawa State have been assured of provision of adequate fertiliser and improved seed varieties to enable them have greater yield.
Attaining the feat became possible with the revamping of the Nasarawa fertilizer blending plant by government, with the deliberate plans to enable farmers access it at subsidised rate to boost crop production in the state.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Mr. Napthali Dachor, representing the commissioner said government has rolled out plans ahead of the season from which farmers would benefit to boost agricultural production in the state.
According to him, part of the state Ministry of Agriculture’s preparation included pre-farming season training for farmers in the state to enable them identify which seedlings would be best for cultivation, especially as the climate has drastically changed due to global warming affecting crop planting and harvesting.
“So we have been up and doing as far as the ministry is concerned and with the installation of modern machines for fertilizer production in the state, a priority of Governor Al-Makura to ease the burden of getting fertilizer by farmer which used to be very expensive, we now have a blending plant that is capable of producing sufficient fertilizers for our farmers.”
This goes a long way to tell you of how prepared the state government is in meeting our farmers’ needs for enhanced productivity,” he said.
The commissioner further stated that plans are on by the state government for a robust agriculture policy, that would serve the general interest of farmers both small and large scale.
