The Nasarawa State government, Azman Rice Farms Limited and Umaisha community of Toto Local Government Area have signed a tripartite agreement for a 14,000ha land for the cultivation of rice.
Commenting after signing the agreement, Governor Abdullahi Sule, said his dream was to see the people of the state have something to do. He said the agreement signaled the beginning of a mutually beneficial relationship between the state government, Azman Farms and Toto community.
He commended those that made the agreement possible, especially the paramount ruler of Toto, the Ohimege Opanda, Alhaji Usman Abdullahi.
Earlier, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in the state, Abdulkarim Abubakar Kana, said with the signing of the agreement, all was set for the payment of compensation to members of the community who willingly gave their lands for the project.
Kana explained that the lease is for 45 years, and that the land would be handed over to Azman Farms only after compensation was paid.
Responding on behalf of the investors, the chairman of Azman Group, Alhaji Abdulmunaf Yunusa Sarina, said they were in the state on the invitation of Governor Sule.
“We are here to give our maximum contribution towards the provision of employment for the people of the state,” Alhaji Sarina said.
He further said that the company was ready to commence work as soon as they were in possession of the land.
The deputy governor of the state, Emmanuel Akabe, signed the agreement on behalf of the state government while Alhaji Sarina signed on behalf of Azman farms.
The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ibrahim Balarabe, represented Toto community at the ceremony.
