Nasarawa State Christian Pilgrim Welfare Board has urged intending Christian pilgrims to Jerusalem not to abscond while in the holy land.
The Executive Secretary of the board, Musa Oloko, gave the advice during the 2018 orientation exercise for the intending pilgrims. He said pilgrims from the state have kept good records in the past and the board intended to surpass the previous performance.
“Nasarawa State under Governor Umaru Al-Makura has increased the number of state sponsored seats from 103 in 2017 to 179 in 2018 because he was impressed by the board’s performance,” he revealed.
According to him, the state government sponsored 120 people, the various local government areas sponsored 50 people while nine people sponsored themselves.
Oloko added that the board has taken precautionary measures to avoid any conduct by any pilgrim that would bring embrassment to the state.
“We have constituted committees that would take care of all of you throughout the exercise. Spiritual and counselling committees are also in place to ensure that the purpose of the pilgrimage, which includes prayers for peace and unity in the country, is adhered to.
“The various committees and their leaders would be in every bus to ensure acceptable conduct by all of you while in the Holy Land,” he added.”
The board secretary therefore assured all intending pilgrims that the board has already made arrangement for hotel accommodation and that they would be airlifted on January 6 from Abuja Airport.
On his part, Senator Solomon Ewuga, leader of the team, urged the intending pilgrims not to indulge in any conduct that would bring disrepute to the state.
Ewuga who was represented by John Matthew, promised to provide exemplary leadership to make the pilgrimage a success.
The programme featured orientation by NDLEA, DSS among others.
