The Nasarawa State Government has partnered  with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) for testing and collection of blood samples for Lassa fever patients and other related diseases at the state infectious diseases and research diagnostic centre.

The Chief Medical Director, Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital (DASH), Dr Hassan Ikrama, stated this during an award ceremony organised for staff of the hospital, in Lafia.

Two medical doctors who lost their lives while trying to save Lassa fever patients at the hospital bagged posthumous awards while 48 other medical personnel were rewarded for their efforts in fighting COVID-19 pandemic across the state.

Ikrama said one of the major challenges of the hospital now is brain drain, adding that it has lost 22 medical doctors to the problem in the last five months.

The state commissioner of Health, Pharm. Ahmed Baba, said the government would continue to support the health workers in the state.

One of the awardees, Dr. Esther Namo, said the award has motivated her to continue to do her best in her work at the hospital.
