Maku dumped the PDP after protesting the outcome of its December, 2014 governorship primary election, insisting that he will remain in the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Speculations were rife for the return of Maku, with inside PDP sources saying that the Presidency, which is still believed to have Maku’s attention, would intervene in the matter with a view to facilitating the return of Maku to the PDP to support its candidate, Yusuf  Agabi.
Yesterday, PDP chieftains in the state including the deputy governor, Dameshi Barau Luka, met in Akwanga. Sources at the meeting said top on the agenda was the return of Maku after the party leaders in attendance had earlier admitted that Maku’s defection caused the PDP a serious setback.
Inside sources said that the party was optimistic that with the speculated intervention of the president when he met with Maku in Abuja, during a meeting of Catholic Bishops, the former minister may soon be on his way back.
