State police commissioner, Shehu Babalola who briefed newsmen on the successes of the command’s Ember Months Police Crime Campaign in Lafia, Friday said a team of crack detectives arrested four members of the gang between 2:00am and 5:00am of Wednesday, December 2, in a hotel where they were lodging.
“The criminals had gone to raid some houses and hotels in Aso Panda area when nemesis caught up with them,” the police commissioner said, explaining that the successful discovery of their hideout, and the subsequent arrest came with the assistance of the vigilante group in the area.
He said among the four suspects arrested is a female, one Chizoba Iledibe who allegedly accompanied her boyfriend and leader of the gang – Augustine Etebimiem on the robbery operation.
The police commissioner said the daring robbers shot somebody dead, although he had yet got details.
Parading the suspects, Babbalola gave the names of the remaining two suspects as Ofem Ubi (alias Don Sly), and Mike Joseph Egbe who claims to be a 1999 graduate of Geology from the University of Calabar (UNICAL) in Cross River State.
Babalola said some members of the gang had escaped and are still at large, but assured the command was on their trail and would make arrests and bring them to justice.
“The command is once again, appealing to members of the public to be extra vigilant, and report any suspicious persons and movements to the law enforcement agents as this is the only way to ensure maximum safety of life and property in the state,” the police boss advised.
