The Nasarawa State Police Command said it has arrested and prosecuted 328 criminals from December 2016 to date in the state.
The state Commissioner of Police (CP) Abubakar Sadiq-Bello disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Lafia yesterday.
He said since his posting as the 21st commissioner of police in Nasarawa State last November, the command has recorded modest achievements in the fight against crime and criminality.
“A total number of 328 criminals were arrested and charged to courts from this period and many exhibits were recovered,” he said.
“These include 419 ammunition of various calibres, seven AK 47 rifles, 12 AK 49 rifles, one FMC rifle, two English made pistols, 30 cartridges. Others are 27 vehicles, 28 motorcycles, 48 locally made pistols, nine million fake currencies, over 700 rustled cattle were also recovered,” CP Bello said.
He listed inadequate manpower and transfer of officers without replacement, lack of adequate patrol vehicles and communication gadgets as some of the challenges facing the police command in Nasarawa.
He appealed to the Inspector-General of Police to assist in addressing these challenges in order to enhance their capacities for better protection of lives and properties in the state.
