He is of the PDP and took over from his kinsman, late Senator Emmanuel Okudu Okpede, after the tenure of the late former Deputy Senate President, Senator Haruna Abubakar from 1999 to 2003. The diverse nature of the ethnic composition of the zone makes this possible.
Compare to the case in advanced democracies where lawmakers make career in legislative business, the case is different here.
The low performance of Senator Adokwe has given rise to the search for an ideal material from the All Progressives Congress (APC). The search became tense and imperative when the threat of impeachment to the incumbent governor, Alhaji Tanko Umaru Almakura, was issued by the PDP-dominated state House of Assembly.
Governor Almakura’s political career is being threatened by the increasing interest of the Abuja-backed Akwanga senatorial zone dominated by Eggons who believe it is their turn to produce the next governor come 2015. Eggons are in the PDP after their leader, Senator Solomon Ewuga, ditched Almakura and defected to the PDP.
With the threat posed by Eggon-dominated PDP, the APC stakeholders are faced with the daunting challenge of addressing the concerns of various ethnic nationalities.
Last weekend saw the gathering of the Eggon at Nasarawa Eggon Community Secondary School where the major gladiators trooped in with their supporters to outwit each other.
The search for a senator for the southern district also came to bear as dozens of youths came clamouring for a bridge builder. The youth are floating the candidature of Adamu Muazu Adogi on the APC ticket.
Besides being an Eggon himself and a certified national accountant, he is a grassroots mobilizer who observers believe may be the ideal man to rescue the embattled governor from the hands of his albatross. Hon Muazu Adogi, who also holds a masters degree in business administration doubles as the state commissioner for environment, is the governor’s arrow head in Eggon land after the defection of Senator Ewuga.
Even in the event of major threats from his kinsmen, Adogi remains adamant to the belief of his master and party, thus mobilizing party supporters under the Eggon Renaissance Group for Almakura.
