The speaker of Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Alhaji Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, has empowered his constituents with cash and material items worth about N16 million for the overall development of the constituency and the state at large.

Abdullahi, who is representing Umaisha-Ugya-Toto constituency of the state, distributed the items at his Umaisha home town yesterday.

The speaker also doled out N30,000 cash each to 100 students studying at various tertiary institutions across the country, which he said was part his scholarship scheme to support indigent students.

He also gave out N30,000 cash each to 100 women, 70 sewing machines,70 grinding machines and 800 pieces of  wrappers to women in his constituency.

The lawmaker also distributed 40 water pump machines, 50 cartoons of herbicides and 40 sprayers which, he said, were to boost food production in his constituency, the state and Nigeria at large.

The speaker said that scholarship was a yearly scheme which he tagged “Balarabe Education Support Programme”.

He also said the N30,000 given to each woman was to enable them start small businesses under the yearly “Balarabe Women Empowerment Programme.”

“It was during my first election in 2015 that I initiated these programmes aimed at reducing hardship among my people which by God’s grace I hope to sustain,” he said.

He added: “My people are of the riverine, who are mainly farmers and fishermen and I deem it necessary to procure agricultural inputs for them,” the speaker added.

The speaker then called for prayers and support for the APC-led administration of  President Muhammadu Buhari, Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State and other leaders at all levels to enable them to succeed.

In his address at the occasion, Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule, represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Ahmad Aliyu Tijjani, said the speaker has been able to change the narrative in grassroots politics in the state, and described him as an asset to the APC and called on others to emulate him.

On his part, the national vice chairman of APC, North Central, Ahmed Suleiman Wambai, commended the speaker for his giant stride toward uplifting the people of his constituency, and called on people of the area to continue to support him.

The deputy speaker of the state house of assembly, Nahemiah Tsentse Dandaura, described the speaker as a leader worthy of emulation while praying for God to lift higher.
