Speaker of Nasarawa State House of Assembly Alhaji Ibrahim Balarabe – Abdullah has urged the Egbura ethnic group across the nation on unity and peaceful coexistence among themselves and other ethnic groups.
A statement by the chief press secretary to the speaker, Jibrin Gwomna, said the speaker made the call during the coronation ceremony of Alhaji Muhammad Suleiman, as the Ohi – Egbura1 of Lafia, by the Emir of Lafia, retired Justice Sidi Bage, at his palace on Saturday.
He said there was need for the Egbura to embrace one another irrespective of their tribal, ethnic and religious affiliations for development to take place.
The speaker who was represented by the member representing Toto- Gadabuke constituency of the state, Usman Labaran Shafa, noted that the importance of unity and peace to societal development cannot be overemphasised, hence the call became imperative.
According to him, it was when there was unity and peace among the people that there will be rapid development in given society, saying the Egbura nation must sustain such peace and harmonious relationship with each other and other ethnic groups.
“And let us understand that politics is transient, it comes and goes. Therefore it should not take us apart. Let our collective interest rather than personal interest be our priority, and with that it will be good for all of us,” he said.
The speaker, while congratulating Muhammad Suleiman on his coronation as Ohi – Egbura of Lafia, urged him to ensure he carries his subjects and other people along while discharging his duties in the interest of peace and development of Nasarawa State.
He also called on Egbura nation to support the traditional ruler and other traditional leaders of Egbura as well as government at all levels to enable them succeed in the task ahead of them.
The statement also said the Chairman of Egbura National Development Association (ENDA), Lafia branch, Justice Jibrin Idris, who was the chairman of the occasion, urged the Egbura nation to unite in order to attract development to their area.
On his part, the Ohi – Egbura of Lafia, Alhaji Muhammad Suleiman, thanked the Emir of Lafia for crowning him as the Ohi Egbura Lafia.
He assured on promoting peace among not only the Egbura ethnic groups but other tribes across Nasarawa State and the country at large.
The coronation ceremony brought together politicians, traditional rulers, Egbura sons and daughters from far and near among whom were the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Suleiman Dikko, Pharmacist Ahmed Baba Yahaya, and the state Commissioner of Health.
