Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has said that the state is making efforts to return Almajiris to their states of origin.

He made the disclosure while receiving the report of the committee set up to assist in the government’s efforts of returning these children to their states of origin.

Governor Sule said, “The return of these Almajiris will be done in phases and in collaboration with the governors of the affected states.

“Tsangaya teachers will lead these children back to their parents in their respective localities in their states in order to ensure that they return to same place they came from,” he said.

In his remarks, the Emir of Lafia, Justice Sidi Dauda Bage (rtd), said the report recommends immediate action in evacuating the children below the age of 10 under phase one of the programme.

“After that of those below the age of 10 years, the others too will be addressed. Certain criteria and standards must be met before any Almajiri will be allowed to remain in the state,’’ he said.
