NASENI boosting local capacity for precision manufacturing

The Executive Vice Chairman of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), Khalil Suleiman Halilu, has said Nigeria must strengthen its capacity to manufacture high-precision components locally to drive industrialisation and reduce dependence on imports.

Halilu made the remark during a visit by the Director-General of the Budget Office of the Federation, Tanimu Yakubu, to the NASENI Centre of Excellence for Precision Manufacturing.

He said the facility was established to reduce Nigeria’s reliance on imported precision-engineered components used across key industries.

According to him, the centre is designed to strengthen the country’s advanced manufacturing capabilities and support the production of world-class components for sectors including aerospace, automotive, energy, defence and healthcare.

Halilu said developing local expertise and infrastructure in precision engineering would enhance the competitiveness of Nigerian industries, create high-value jobs and position the country as a regional manufacturing hub.

He added that expanding indigenous manufacturing capacity remains critical to accelerating industrial growth and economic development.

The NASENI boss thanked Yakubu for visiting the facility, describing the visit as a demonstration of the Budget Office’s support for initiatives aimed at advancing Nigeria’s industrial development.

He expressed confidence that sustained collaboration among government institutions would accelerate technology transfer, innovation and local production capacity across strategic sectors of the economy.
