The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has commenced a week-long virtual training on ASPEN Plus, a leading process simulation software.
The programme, hosted at NASENI’s Virtual Manufacturing Lab in Abuja, is part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to enhance technical capabilities in renewable energy and engineering design across its development institutes.
The agency’s chief information officer, Chinyere Obiorah-Ekwuazi, in a statement said the hybrid training, designed for 50 engineers and biochemists from NASENI, marks a significant step towards empowering the agency’s workforce with advanced tools for process design, optimisation and simulation.
Obiorah-Ekwuazi noted that the initiative follows the successful completion of NASENI’s Biogas and Biomethanol Plant Design Training, which was conducted in collaboration with SRH Berlin University.

At the opening ceremony, Dr Chika Ezeanyanso, Deputy Director of the Nano Science Department and representative of NASENI’s Executive Vice Chairman (EVC), emphasised the agency’s commitment to equipping staff with cutting-edge knowledge to drive innovation in renewable energy.
The deputy director acknowledged the EVC’s dedication to ensuring NASENI personnel remain at the forefront of technological advancements in biogas and other renewable energy sectors.
“The approval and support from the EVC have been instrumental in making this training possible. It is a critical step in ensuring NASENI’s continued leadership in the renewable energy space,” she said.
The Special Adviser to the EVC on Science and Engineering Commercialisation, Engr. Anas Yazid Balarabe, also addressed participants on the importance of bridging research and commercialization.
He noted that the skills gained through the ASPEN Plus training would enable participants to transform research into marketable products, advancing Nigeria’s renewable energy sector and supporting sustainable development.
The ASPEN Plus training is expected to play a key role in advancing the technical expertise of NASENI staff, particularly in the design and development of efficient biogas plants and other sustainable energy solutions.
Participants were urged to leverage the training to contribute to Nigeria’s energy needs and promote innovation in the renewable energy sector.
