It launched first made-in-Nigeria motorcycle with 65% local content in 2013 and last year launched its first made-in-Nigeria rickshaw (cargo and passenger models).
But the goal of the partnership with JICA according to the Executive Vice Chairman/CE, NASENI, Dr. Mohammed Sani Haruna was to avail NASENI opportunity to ride on the shoulders of a technologically advanced economy like Japan to transform Nigeria technology using local industrial tools produced and manufactured by the agency.
 Dr. Haruna disclosed last week that agency tied the partnership with JICA when its leader Mr Yoshiyuki Choso visited NASENI headquarters in Abuja.
Speaking at the occasion, the Executive Vice Chairman/CE who was represented by the Director of Engineering Infrastructure, Engr. Dr Mohammed Dauda, in his presentation of NASENI achievements and interventions, the agency is working towards producing electric car and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV).
“What we have been craving for is to have an organization that will help in utilizing the dynamic, creative college of engineers that we have in NASENI because we want to develop the expertise that exists here”, he stated.
He further expatiated on the Agency’s possible areas of collaborations with JICA and NAC to include automotive spare part production, automobile maintenance and repairs, quality control (Testing, measurement and standardization of instruments etc), capacity building for Nigerian technicians on spare part production, automobile repairs and maintenance and many more.
Earlier in his presentation, Mr Yoshiyuki Choso of JICA explained that his agency implements Official Development Assistance (ODA) of Japan to developing countries and also supports human resources and socio economic development in order to facilitate the autonomous and sustainable development of developing countries and to provide bilateral aid in form of technical cooperation through Japanese loan and grant.
