The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) and the Memorial University Newfoundland (MUN) Canada have agreed to work together for the development of science and technology and innovation for nation building.

This is even as the Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of NASENI, Prof. Mohammed Sani Haruna said one sure way to solve Nigeria’s security challenges and overcome economic difficulties is through adaptation of science and technology solutions to development plans.

NASENI and MUN entered into collaboration, Tuesday, when MUN team led by Dr. Neil Bose, the Vice President Research, Memorial University, Canada visited NASENI headquarters in Abuja.

As part of the benefits of the collaboration, Memorial University has offered two PhD slots in Canada to Nigerians in specialized areas of modern engineering and technologies.

The areas of collaboration between the two institutions include capacity building in Advanced Science, Engineering and Innovations and Joint Research & Development(R&Ds) projects and programmes.

Other areas of collaboration include robotics, autonomous robot control and navigation, intelligent control, multi-variable control, image analysis and vision-based robotic navigation, mechatronics, control systems, sensor design, energy systems, storage and efficiency, advanced materials, phase change materials and heat transfer (for application in solar energy heat storage and solar thermal energy systems).

Others are Computational Fluid Dynamics and Finite Element Analysis for modelling, simulation, and analysis of designs, Process flow modelling, Petroleum and petrochemical process machinery, Cloud Computing, Magnetic Pole Systems and Marine and Oceanic Studies.

In his remarks, the Executive Vice Chairman of NASENI said there was no better way to develop humanity, tackle security challenges and the economy than through science and technology.

In his speech, the leader of MUN, Dr. Neil Bose, said “4% of our students are Nigerians and they have been coming into Memorial University, Canada in the last 10 years. We have been actively educating and training students from Nigeria but now want stronger collaboration with government agencies for nation building.”

Nasarawa State University, Keffi has been designated as the first beneficiary institution in the implementation of the collaboration.
