The Nigerian Association of Technologists in Engineering (NATE) has asked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to abolish the disparity between HND and B.Sc holders.

It urged him to direct the Head of Service of the Federation to develop a career progression in the scheme of service that would allow the HND graduates to progress beyond grade level 14 (GL 14-17).

Speaking during a briefing in Abuja on Friday, the National President of NATE, Dominic Udoatan, also urged the federal government to establish a Polytechnic Commission to monitor all technology-based programmes in the country.

He said the regulation of polytechnics should be properly done and guided by a statutory body like its other sister advanced educational bodies.

He explained that the NBTE which is saddled with the responsibility is equipped to handle technical colleges while a commission will do well in handling issues of polytechnics.

Udoatan also urged the federal government to revamp the technical colleges in the country, saying that the curriculum of technical schools is obsolete and theoretically based but practically weak.

He said the curriculum was inadequate to address the current trends of technological development.
