Dr Gbola Olagbegi, said this at a one-day workshop on National Health Act and Primary Health Care Under One Roof for media practitioners and National Orientation Agency (NOA) staff held in Abuja.   Olagbegi said: “The National Health Act is commitment by government at all levels to make health services available to all people so that nobody is more than one hour away from accessing essential health services .
“The government basically accepted that they will make effort to make sure that no matter where you are in Nigeria, there will be a Primary Health Care centre, either a post or a comprehensive health care centre close to you. So, there will be at least a Primary Health Care post serving a minimum of 5,000 people for the essential services mentioned, ”Olagbegi said.
 “The essential thing is that the federal government has been committed to making 1% of the Consolidated Revenue Fund (CRF) available for the provision of the Primary Health Care package consisting of a minimum service package of immunization, free maternal/newborn and child health, basic treatments of illnesses like malaria, typhoid, cholera and any acute condition that affects any Nigerian, ”Olagbegi explained.
Similarly, Mr Benjamin Agada of HERFON explained that, “PHCUOR is about correcting the error that was made in the first Primary Health Care service that was delivered all over the country. In the first arrangement, the local government, state and federal governments were all rendering Primary Health Care service. Bringing them under one roof is to create a system that we have one management and one plan so there will be one single line of monitoring and evaluation,” Agada said.
