The Director-General of National Productivity Centre,  Kashim Akor has called for increased funding of the Centre to make  it actualize its mandate of accelerating socio-economic growth and development of Nigeria through productivity improvement.

He made the call while addressing members of the House of Representatives Committee on Labour, Employment and Productivity who were on an oversight visit to the Centre on Thursday.

Akor stated that the present budgetary allocation is inadequate in view of the mandate and array of programmes and activities designed by the Centre to stimulate and promote productivity growth in the Nigerian economy, as well as engender international competitiveness.

 

“The greatest challenge of the Centre has been in the persistently low funding from the budgetary allocation over the years. The overall effect of the low funding manifest itself in the lack of permanent Corporate Head Office accommodation and accumulated debts to landlords, inability to adequately build the Centre’s human resources capacity through training and retraining, inadequate sensitization of the citizenry in the media on the need for a productive mindset and culture at all times, dearth of official vehicles, etc”.
