Chief Technical Officer of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Coach Shiju Lagunju confirmed this while speaking with Fever Pitch on phone yesterday.
The 10-day Adidas U-15 Youth Championship is expected to kick off on 18th and end on 24th of June 2012.
Nigeria was supposed to feature alongside: Spain, Argentina, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Denmark and host Mexico.
The coach who had traveled to Calabar to watch Super Eagles match against Rwanda said he only heard the news as well and will have to return to Abuja to get details.
“It is true. They said its logistic problem. The news broke when I was not in camp. I’m away in Calabar to watch Super Eagles game”
“They (the team) were in Abuja. They gave them the reasons there but I don’t have the reasons”, he noted.
The Media Officer of the team, Bunmi Haruna said “they said it’s logistics but I think it’s money.”
“It was all about transit Visa. The plane bookings they got would require the team going in batches and it may result in them missing some matches”, he added.
He said the NFF General Secretary, Musa Amadu was unhappy that the team couldn’t make the trip.
Mr. Haruna however, noted that Amadu was already sourcing for another tournament for the team.
“They are sourcing for another tournament in Europe, between August and September”, he said.
