Sports Minister, Bolaji Abdullahi who made the disclosure at the closing ceremony, noted that it was gratifying that not less than 370 athletes out of the 2917 registered for the competitions were picked for monitoring and development.
Abdullahi said that the absence of five states in the competition did not take the shine off the games.
He charged the athletes not to relent in their efforts in developing themselves for the challenge ahead as the National Sports Commission will continue to give them the necessary support to move to the next level.
“This shows that you will truly win in the future, not just for yourself but for the nation,” he said.
The Minister commended the Federal Capital Territory and the 31 participating states, especially, Yobe and Borno, for presenting their athletes for the competition despite the security challenges in their zone.
He said the participation of the two north-eastern states was an indicator that the country can surmount its security challenges.
The fiesta, which started on December 6 had no fewer than 4000 participants.
