The leadership of the Karu Gbagyi Development Association (KAGBADA) has commended FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for upgrading the Sakaruyi of Karu, HRH Joseph Danfulani Narai, from second-class to first-class status.
In a statement made available to newsmen on Wednesday, KAGBADA Public Relations Officer (PRO), ThankGod Musa, described the elevation of the Karu monarch and other traditional rulers as a commendable move.
He noted that Wike’s bold action mirrors a historical milestone from July 15, 1997, when then-FCT Minister Lt. Gen. Jeremiah Useni spearheaded the grading of 11 chiefdoms through Decree 8, under the administration of Military Head of State, General Sani Abacha.
According to the statement, the upgrade has been a long-standing demand of FCT natives.
The association added that the elevation provides traditional rulers with a sense of belonging and places them on par with their counterparts in neighboring states.
“We are proud to inform the community that just last week, KAGBADA Chairman Sumner Shagari Sambo raised the issue of FCT traditional rulers during a media chat with Minister Nyesom Wike at his residence in Life Camp, Abuja. The chairman requested better engagement between the Minister and the monarchs following complaints that they were not being fully carried along,” the statement said.
While congratulating the Sakaruyi of Karu and other elevated traditional rulers, the association noted that such promotions under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration are significant milestones for FCT natives.
KAGBADA urged the revered traditional rulers to use their new offices to restore the dignity of FCT original inhabitants and ensure that development reaches the grassroots.
