Natty, whose real name is Romanus Amuta, told Sunday Trust at his Enugu residence that he now manages to walk, although with slight difficulty.
“My health has improved really. There is great improvement unlike before,” he said repeatedly.
Natty, who came to limelight when he starred as a true representation of the “poverty class” of the Nigerian society in the New Masquerade series viewed by millions of Nigerians on the NTA network, eventually joined the Nollywood industry after the series went off air.
Natty has been bedridden with stroke for years but it “appears God has not abandoned him,” remarked a relative, who added, “Now he manages to work and somehow limps, with an un-coordinated speech manner. You might not understand what he says.”
Wearing shorts and shirt, Natty welcomed the Sunday Trust reporter as he extended his left hand for a handshake, the right having been badly affected by the stroke.
“If the stroke had affected the left hand or the left side of his body, perhaps he would not have survived it,” a neighbour chipped.
As Natty sat heavily on the seat in his sitting room, he smiled and revealed a set of teeth, almost of the same size. “My health has improved,” he said again and again.
Natty is one of the cast of once famous comedy show that had been dogged by misfortune. Jegede Shokoya, (Claude Eke), Apina (Christy Essien-Igbokwe), and James Iroha (Giringory Akabuogu) having all passed on while Clarus is currently blind.
Commenting on the development, a notable member of the cast, who is currently into private practice, Chief Zebrudaya Okoligwe Nwogbo, alias 4.30 (Chief Chika Okpala) declared, “It is really unfortunate because I don’t know why the calamity should come to the cast. But I know that death is a necessary end that must come when it will and so
we will not run away from death. We don’t know how we came into this world and we don’t know what we signed with God when we were coming. All we know is that we came into this world, we met each other and we propagated the show and the show worked and so any where God plucks one off, it’s unfortunate; any where He incapacitates any person, it’s unfortunate but life goes on because we must have to see that we train people along that side that we have lost a character.”
