‘Natural water fishes taste better’

Okayi, speaking in Makurdi, said that several factors such as human activities, industrial, chemical and environmental factors have continued to threaten water bodies where these natural fishes were found.
“It is true that natural fishes taste better than the ones bred in the pond. It is because those found in natural environment eat more of natural food, they are exposed to a lot of aquatic plants in water.
“The natural fish eat more of green plant in their natural environment while we stock the artificial ones with more of artificial feeds enhancing their growths faster but losing their nutrients. The one in natural environment have more of nutrient embedded in their flesh than the ones cultured in the pond.”
Okayi advised individual fish farm owners not to only feed their fishes with artificial feeds made up of component of maize, guinea corn, soybean, among others, and allow the fishpond grow with artificial green algae to naturally fertilize the pond.
