‘Navy activities stem increase in hydrocarbon pollution’

The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibos-Ete Ibas, has said that activities of the Nigerian Navy have stemmed the steady rise in hydrocarbon pollution in the Niger Delta region.

Vice Admiral Ibas said reduction in hydrocarbon pollution has also led to an improvement in the nation’s economy.

He also attributed the successes in containing sea piracy and other maritime crimes to necessary enablement at the disposal of the Nigerian Navy.

Vice Admiral Ibas said the vital enablement has made it possible for the Navy to carry out its legitimate functions.

The Nigerian Navy has successfully reduced the incidences of sea piracy in the Niger Delta region, he said.

The Chief of Naval Staff, who was  on a two-day official visit to units and command of the NNS Pathfinder, Port Harcourt, also   commissioned a medical centre and golf course.

He said the visit was a necessary routine conducted to appraise the operational readiness of the Nigerian Navy.

“The activities of the Navy have also stemmed the steady rise in hydrocarbon pollution and I think that the economy of the nation has been able to improve as a result of that. The measure that was attributed to our success in reducing sea piracy is very clear,” he said.

He said the commands he has visited so far have been able to judiciously utilize the resources at their disposal, adding “that is  why the management of the Nigerian Navy has been commissioning key projects.”
