Elachi, who emerged unopposed from the northern zone, will pilot the affairs of the branch for the next two years.
Other aspirants who were elected through the electronic voting system were: Betty Umegbulem, Vice Chairman; Kola Omotingbon, General Secretary; Nduka Okatta, Social Secretary; E.M.D. Umukoro, Associate Social Secretary; and Christopher Eitchie, Treasurer.
Others are: Silas Joseph Onu, Public Relations Officer; Philemon Yakubu, Financial Secretary, Chinedu Obienu, Welfare Secretary; and Obioma Ezenwobodo, Provost.
The electronic voting system adopted for the election was facilitated by the Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) which provided the computers, monitors, printers and thumb-print capturing machines.
The procedure entailed voters using their membership identity numbers to thumb and log onto the site for the aspirants. The voter then ticks choices for the various positions.
The printer prints the hard copy of the selections which the voter casts into the transparent boxes.
Speaking on the conduct of the election, outgoing chairman of the branch U.M. Yamah described it as free and fair which was achieved through the pioneer electronic voting system.
“We believe that e-voting is the way to go. It has no room for manipulation. We recommend that this should be adopted for national elections in future,” he said.
