The Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Kano state chapter has honored former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mariam Aloma Mukhtar for her selfless service to the justice sector and the country as a whole.
The chairman of the chapter, Dr. Mamman Lawan Yusufari said the honour was part of series of events organized by the chapter to celebrate its 2015 Law Week.
Yusufari, who described Justice Mariam as upright judge, said history will never forget her enormous contributions in the justice sector.
“Justice Mariam has distinguished herself as dedicated, committed and patriotic legal practitioner. She was the first woman Magistrate in Kano, the first woman to be Chief Registrar in the state.
“She was also the first woman to be High Court judge in Kano, the first woman to be a justice of Court of Appeal. Justice Maryam was the first woman to be justice of the Supreme Court and the first woman to be Chief Justice of Nigeria,” he said.
Yusufari said the woman that has achieved these in her chosen profession deserves to be honored, adding that “if there is anything more than this honor I think Justice Maryam deserves it.”
