The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has criticised the security arrangement in the country which has led to assassinations, kidnappings and armed robbery.

The President of the NBA, Paul Usoro (SAN), in a statement on Sunday, bemoaned the tragic deaths of three members of the association across the country in two weeks.

The slain lawyers are the Secretary of Ikole-Ekiti Branch, Adeola Adebayo, whose decomposing body was recovered from a forest on November 31, following his abduction and payment of N3m ransom;  Adeshina Okeya, a new wig called to the bar same date of November 29, on the outskirts of Abuja; and Remigus Ogu (Jnr), a magistrate in Imo State, whose body was on November 23, recovered on a  road in Amucha Community in Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State following his kidnapping the previous day.

“Meanwhile, these incidents bring to the fore the terrifying state of insecurity in our land.

“Adeshina would, perhaps, still have been with us if the state of insecurity in the country was not so grave such that communities have resorted to self-help in the form of vigilante groups. Community policing in other climes refers to the collaborative effort of communities with the police to secure lives and property,” Usoro said.
