The Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Kwara State Branch, Barrister Mansuma Issa, has called for capital punishment to be introduced in the entire African nation, Nigeria inclusive, to stem the tide of graft and brazen looting of public funds.
He said countries like Singapore, China, Taiwan, Vietnam and South Korea who deployed death penalty to curb corruption have succeeded in fighting corruption.
Mansuma made the call in Ilorin, Kwara State capital, while featuring on a radio personality interview programme.
The NBA chairman said that corruption became endemic in Africa, adding that the association was in support of the corruption war championed by President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
He lamented that funds that should be spent on the health, education, agriculture and to fighting terrorism were diverted to individual pockets, adding that offenders should be treated in accordance with the law.
Mansuma expressed his displeasure that the judiciary was technologically left behind in Nigeria, appealing to the federal and state governments to provide the judiciary with verbatim recording machines to ease judges’ assignments.
The NBA chairman decried corruption among judicial officers, saying that those found guilty should not be spared.
