The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has sued the Nigeria Police Force before a Federal High Court in Abuja over the tinted glass permit policy introduced earlier this year by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
The chairman of the Section on Public Interest and Development Law (NBA-SPIDEL), Prof Paul Ananaba, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), confirmed the suit to Weekend Trust yesterday, while urging the police to respect the judicial process and suspend the enforcement of the policy pending the court’s decision.
The police had resumed the enforcement of approvals for motorists to use tinted glasses with allegations of extortion, which prompted the NBA National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on August 23 as part of the Annual General Conference (AGC) in Enugu, to resolve to challenge the action in court.
Following the NEC resolution, the NBA, on September 2, filed suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/182/2025 against the Inspector-General of Police as defendant.

“It is the abuse of the enforcement that we are against; you can make regulations on the use of the tinted glasses to ensure security without extorting the masses,” he said.
On the State Security Service (SSS)’s invitation of Senior Advocates of Nigeria for screening, the president of the NBA, Mazi Afam Osigwe, during the presentation of the AGC communique, said the association was liaising with relevant agencies to prevent the invitation of lawyers in the future.
