The National coordinator of the championships, retired Col. Sam Ahmedu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Lagos that those cleared would be contacted after the exercise.
“There are protests against some of the conference champions and we need to clear them before they could participate in the national finals in Lagos in October, “ he said.
He expressed appreciation to the sponsors, Nestle Nigeria Plc., for sustaining the championships since 1998 and urged them not to relent until Nigerian basketball attained recognition among basketball playing nations.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that six male and female schools from the conferences qualified for the finals scheduled for the National Stadium, Lagos.
In the male category, Ahmadiyya College, Kano, from the Savannah Conference and Government Day College Comprehensive School, Bauchi, in the Sahara Conference, are among the finalists.
Others are Dalex International College, Ilorin, Kwara, Central Conference; and Annunciation Secondary School, Nike, Enugu, Enugu State, Equatorial Conference.
Henson Demonstration Secondary School, Benin-City, Edo, Atlantic Conference; and St. Gabriel’s Secondary Commercial School, Mokola, Ibadan, Oyo State, Western Conference, are also in the category.
In the girls’ category are Government Girls’ Day Secondary School, Gusau, Zamfara, Savannah Conferenc and Government Secondary School, Adamawa, Adamawa State, Sahara Conference.
Others are Queen of the Rosary College, Gboko, Benue, Central Conference; Annunciation Secondary School, Nike, Enugu State, Equatorial Conference; Asaba Senior Girls? Grammar School, Asaba, Delta, Atlantic Conference.
Yejide Girls Grammar School, Molete, Ibadan, Oyo State, Western Conference, also qualified for the girls finals.
