NBC queries AIT, NTA, FRCN, 83 others

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has queried 86 private and government owned radio and television stations in the country for breach of various broadcasting ethics.
 The African Independent Television (AIT), the Nigeria Television Authourity and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Galaxy TV, Cool FM, Wazobia FM and Silver TV, are some of the stations affected, according to the Breach Profile for February 2016 notice pasted on the NBC website.
About 12 of the stations were also fined between N150,000 and N100,000, each for failing to stop unwholesome broadcast on their networks even after several warnings from the broadcast industry regulator.
The stations who got the  fines were: FRCN Umuahia (N150,000), Petals 102.3 FM Ibadan (N100,000), Ogun State TV Abeokuta (N100,000), Space 90.1FM Ibadan (N100,000), Star 91.5 FM Ibadan (100,000), Amunludun 99.1 FM Ibadan (N100,000)Crown 101.5FM Ile-Ife (N100,000), Inspiration 100.5FM, Ibadan (N100,000), DITV/Alheri radio Kaduna (N100,000), Galaxy TV Lagos (N100,000), Zamfara Radio (N100,000), and Pride FM (N100,000). 
The NBC said it cautioned AIT and NTA on February 20, 2016, over an advert run by both of them in Abuja. The advert, it said, contravened Section 7.0.14 of the NBC code 
It also said Hot FM Abuja was cautioned for breaching Section 7.0.15 of the Code. “Amaka, a presenter with the station hyped for Razor Sharp Boutique on the programme Rendezvous, aired on February 15, 2016”, it added.
“WAZOBIA FM Abuja was cautioned for breaching Sections 1.9.4, 4.3.1(b & d) and 4.5.1 of the Code. One caller during the programme “Teachings of Baba Godeh” aired on February 21, 2016 made unfair remarks about some churches and also used foul language”, it said.
Some other stations who got the NBC warning include: Crowther Love FM Abuja, Aso FM Abuja, TAO FM Okene, GRACE FM Lokoja and MIDLAND FM, Kwara State, which was issued a final warning for breaching Sections 7.0.17 and 7.0.18 of the Code on February 2, 2016.
The Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS TV), Ibadan was warned for commercialization of news and use of scroll bar for advertisement, breaching Sections 5.1.18, 7.0.15 and 7.0.35 of the Code.   Rainbow 94.1FM, Isheri, Ogun, Splash 105.5FM, Ibadan, Sweet 107.1FM, Abeokuta, Rave 91.7FM, Osogbo and Uniq 103.1FM, Ilesa Osun State, were also affected.
