The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has advised the management of the Jigawa State Polytechnic to take urgent steps to address the lack of equipment and shortage of qualified staff in the institution.
These were parts of the recommendations made by the 60-man Resource Verification and Accreditation Team which visited the polytechnic.
The team, however, acknowledged some remarkable improvements recorded by the institution, especially in the areas of quality practical verification.
Acting Leader of the team, Dr Ebenezer Onyeocha, while briefing reporters at the weekend in Dutse, acknowledged an improvement, when compared to the previous visit by the team.
According to him, “The institution was requested to admit more students into their existing programmes, so we had to look at what they had before and see if they have created enough space for the expansion to admit more students into the existing programmes.”
The Registrar of the institution, Malam Ilyasu Hussaini Jahun, who acknowledged the observed shortcomings said that the management would soon forward the recommendations to the state government with a view to providing the needed resources.
He, however, lauded Governor Badaru Abubakar for the moral and financial support he had provided in the polytechnic that made the institution the first choice for candidates.
Altogether, a total of 13 programmes were assessed by the team, comprising Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics, Building, Quantity Survey, Architecture, Accountancy, Science Laboratory Technology, Business/Public Administration and Social Development as well as Statistics.
