NCC opens 38GHz, 42GHz spectrums for licensing, re-plans 23GHz

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has announced plans to open up new spectrum bands in 38 and 42 GHz.
The NCC also said it is re-planning the existing 23GHz microwave spectrum.
The commission’s Executive Vice Chairman Prof. Umar Danbatta stated this during the stakeholders’ consultative forum to gather inputs from telecom operators on the proposed licensing of the 38GHz, 42GHz and the re-planning of the 23GHz band.
Danbatta represented by the Director, Public Affairs NCC Mr. Tony Ojobo disclosed that the growth in the broadband traffic has increased, and therefore paramount to take proactive measures to curb the impending challenges.
He said, “This is in consistent with the commission’s eight points agenda to facilitate strategic collaboration and partnerships with relevant stakeholders, improve the quality of their services and also facilities broadband services.”
However, he said additional spectrum resources are required to avoid network challenges, adding that it would enable operators effectively meet their spectrum needs for rollout of broadband services.
