The Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) has called for the promotion of regulatory initiatives that would encourage the adoption of renewable and ethical energy sources.

The Executive Vice Chairman, NCC, Prof. Umar Danbatta, who disclosed this yesterday during a roundtable discussion with academia, industry and other stakeholders in Lagos, hinted that the commission plans to introduce policies that would encourage all telecom operators to adopt clean and sustainable energy sources, to reduce carbon footprint.

“In line with this vision, the Commission is in the process of introducing a policy to encourage ethical energy sourcing in the telecommunications sector. This policy will serve as a framework for telecom service providers to adopt clean and sustainable energy sources, reducing their carbon footprint and contributing to a greener future.

“We believe that this policy will not only benefit the environment but also drive innovation and create new business opportunities within the industry,” he said

Danbatta, who was represented by the Executive Commissioner, Technical Services NCC, Engr. Ubale Maska, said the collaboration and partnership with academia and other stakeholders are required to achieve the objectives.

He said the commission requires the expertise, knowledge, and insights of academia to guide in developing feasible alternative sources of clean energy that the telecommunications industry can leverage for a sustainable energy supply.
