The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has rewarded winners of its broadband essay competition with cash prizes, laptops and printers.
At the prize giving ceremony that was held at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja, Odonoekuma Onyebuchi Ekuma a medical science student of the University of Nigeria Nsukka emerged the overall winner in the competition titled: ‘Broadband – A catalyst for national development’.  He was given N500,000, a laptop and a printer.
Mr Abdulkareem Ibraheem, a student of History and International Relations University of Ilorin, came second went home with N300,000 and a laptop.
The third prize winner, Mr Asogwa Peter also a medical student at the University of Nigeria Nsukka also got N200,000 and a laptop, while seven other winners were given N50, 000 each as consolation prizes.
The Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, Prof. Umar Danbatta who spoke before the students were given their prizes   said the provision and deployment of broadband services would form a major strategic thrust of his vision for NCC and telecom industry for Nigeria.
