NCC trains 300 Sokoto Poly staff on ICT

Three hundred staff of the Umaru Ali Shinkafi Polytechnic, Sokoto have been trained on Information and Communications Technology skills by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

The school’s Rector, Professor Aminu Ibrahim disclosed this while speaking with journalists in Sokoto.

He said it was part of efforts towards boosting the capacity of the institution’s manpower and enhance research.

Prof. Ibrahim recalled that last year, over 500 staff and students of the institution were trained on specialized entrepreneurship skills while 150 academic and senior non-academic staff benefitted from another ICT training programme within same period.

He said the polytechnic had been collaborating with various organisations and institutions such as TETFUND, NBTE, NCC and the state government among others towards enhancing facilities and human resources development.

“We are seeing a lot of improvement in terms of performance and in terms of service delivery by our staff,” he said.

The Rector added further: “We are trying to upgrade our practical sessions to have 100 percent coverage of practical, especially science and engineering, entrepreneurship, this is deliberately done to make sure we impact as much skills as it is humanly possible to this young men and women so that by the time they graduate, they would be useful to themselves and to community.”

He however noted that the training was organised by the polytechnic in collaboration with NCC, adding that “Our target is to be able to have academic excellence.”
