Yusuf stated this in his address at the International Day for Monuments and Site held in Abuja, adding that as part of the activities for the centenary celebration of Nigeria, the Commission has identified 100 Monuments and Sites to mark one hundred years of the amalgamation of the Northern and Southern Protectorates to form Nigeria in 1914.
“These monuments and sites which cover the entire geo-cultural zones of the country have been carefully selected with the involvement of different stakeholders in the 36 states and Federal Capital Territory as icons of cultural and natural heritage on the Nigeria landscape.
The Commission has also evolved strategic plans with the communities, states and local governments for their continuous restoration and conservation so that when fully declared as National Monuments and Sites they will not suffer neglect, abandonment or defacement.
