The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), in partnership with implementing consultant Coppercrux Limited, has successfully concluded a highly impactful 5-Day Community Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Awareness Programme.

The transformative workshop, which targeted youths across the six South-South states—Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, and Rivers, culminated its activities in Obudu from November 10th to 14th, 2025. The programme successfully sensitized over 200 youths.

​The initiative was designed to move beyond theoretical concepts, equipping participants with hands-on, critical life skills essential for community well-being. The training covered three key areas:

​Public Health: Participants mastered the 9-step handwashing technique and learned effective deployment strategies for Insecticide-Treated Nets to combat malaria.

​Life-Saving Safety: Training included crucial first aid for common incidents needing Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and Heimlich maneuver; alongside protocols for managing household fire emergencies.

​Environmental Stewardship: Essential training in sanitation and conservation techniques was delivered.

​A standout feature was the introduction of a pragmatic, colour-coded waste segregation system aimed at transitioning communities from indiscriminate dumping to sustainable resource recovery. Also, the habit of consistent tree planting as an adaptation strategy to combat Climate Change effects.

Participants were trained on the proper use of Green Bins (Organics), Blue Bins (Recyclables), Red Bins (Hazardous materials), and Black Bins (General waste).

​The programme’s deliverables were strategically designed for sustainable impact long after the training concluded. Every participating community developed measurable SMART Action Plans.

​A core component of these plans is the formation of Community Health Clubs, which will be dedicated to regular clean-ups, awareness campaigns, and peer education across the region, ensuring the benefits extend widely.

​Officiating the closing ceremony in Obudu, His Royal Highness, the Paramount Ruler of Obudu, delivered a powerful charge to the participants, emphasizing the practical necessity of the skills acquired.

​”Knowledge is power, but practical knowledge is survival. Hence, you are now the frontline defenders of public health in our communities,” His Royal Highness stated.

​The successful execution of the programme reinforces NCDMB’s commitment, in partnership with Coppercrux Limited, to fostering a culture of health, safety, and environmental responsibility among Nigeria’s future leaders.
