The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has said local content in the oil and gas sector has risen from 5 per cent in 2010 to 42 per cent as of last year while targeting 70 per cent by 2030.
The General Manager, Planning, Research and Development at NCDMB, Mr. Abdulmalik Halilu, stated this at a Nigerian Content Capacity Building Workshop for Media Stakeholders in Lagos.
Halilu also said investment in research and development was needed going forward, to sustain the progress being made in the industry.
The official noted that NCDMB had in 2020 initiated the $50 million Nigerian Content Research and Development Fund to support companies.
The General Manager, Corporate Communications and Zonal Coordination Division, NCDMB, Dr. Ginah Ginah, said the federal government was committed to leveraging Nigeria’s gas resources as the world prepares for the energy transition.
Ginah, represented by the Manager, Corporate Communications, NCDMB, Mr. Naboth Onyesoh, said NCDMB was established to drive indigenous participation in the oil and gas space and was working towards achieving 70 per cent Nigerian content by 2030.
The NCDMB spokesman said the declaration of 2021 to 2030 as the Decade of Gas is an initiative that NCDMB aligns with from inception.
He said NCDMB had made several interventions in the gas value-chain which spans the development of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) storage terminals and jetties.
These include inland gas processing to produce LPG and propane, infrastructure for gas gathering and injection into gas pipeline networks, Compressed Natural Gas facilities and manufacturing of composite LPG cylinders.
He noted that the media is critical to promoting the development of Nigerian content in the oil and gas industry.
