The director-general of the National Centre for Women Development (NCWD), Dr Asabe Vilita Bashir, has called on the federal government and other stakeholders to assist graduates from the centre with funding opportunities to start their businesses. 

The director-general, who said this at the graduation ceremony of 115 female trained artisans in Abuja, added that the greatest challenge was assisting the students in setting up their own businesses and providing funding opportunities. 

She said, “As we continue to contribute our quota in building lives, we are calling on development partners, individuals and corporate bodies to join us in the task to rebuild the lives of women and children who have lost their means of survival as a result of the mindless activities of insurgents.”

Speaking at the event, the Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs Dame Pauline Tallen, said the federal government was very committed to ensuring that women were at the forefront of empowerment and skills acquisition.

She said the essence of such training was to help close the gap between men and women working in male-dominated fields. 

“We will be working hand-in-hand with the Ministry of Works and Housing and all other stakeholders involved to make sure that female artisans with skills and certification are acknowledged and opened to as many opportunities as their male counterparts,” she added.

The director-general also urged all participants to make good use of the opportunity given to them and remain good ambassadors of the project.
